Bainbridge Island Residence 2 |
“We don’t need anyone else’s approval to know that we have a great house. You made this space fit like a glove for the family intended to live within these walls. We don’t care what anyone else thinks or says … we know this home is the BEST for us…. We love our house…” - Aleta
The existing house, two-car garage, and two story studio are situated on a five acre site in the mid section of Bainbridge Island, Washington. The family of five purchased the home about five years previous.
A new north/south axis addition was established to the east. The narrow-of-beam addition collected light from the southern exposure and gained views and access to the conifer surrounded meadow. A winter sunroom addition to the south becomes a screened porch in the summer. New guest parking and an entry trellis colonnade announce the new guest entry. Cedar decks connect the sunroom, living room and west porch with a recessed hot tub affording an invitation to the exterior and meadow. The office was relocated from the house to above the garage, requiring a new south facing roof dormer and powder room addition to the garage. The new kitchen, occupying the now vacant office space, provides a naturally lit gathering place with views of the exterior and adjacent sunroom. Care was taken to adopt the existing character of the structure while producing an entirely new architecture.
