This family retreat is located on the windward side of Oahu.  The house draws upon a Polynesian inspired design, which aids in the natural ventilation and offers relief from the afternoon sun.  The property is located on the beach, but is set back from it, giving the owner maximum privacy while still maintaining a spectacular view.

 The living areas and guest suites are arranged to form a courtyard facing the ocean.  The house has a dynamic indoor / outdoor relationship, with expansive overhangs to protect from the rain and sun.  The big sliding doors entirely open up several walls of the living room, as well as large portions of the bedroom walls, evolving into a tropical pavilion.  The materials were carefully selected to withstand the harsh marine environment.
